What is Ripplefold Drapery?

One of our favorite window treatments here at JDD, is the “Ripplefold'' or “wave” drapery.

Ripplefolds are a single continuous panel mounted on a ripplefold drapery rod. When closed, they create continuous “waves” or “folds” from one end of the track to the other and all the way down. Ripplefold drapery give you a tighter stackback than pleats which means you can maintain more of your window space when open.

We just love the soft, floating and modern look these curtains bring to the room.

  • RIPPLEFOLDS BENEFITS

A clean look: Ripplefolds offer a modern and elegant look. They look incredible on tall windows because they are loose, long and soft.

Ripplefolds look identically beautiful from inside the room or outside the building, which makes them a great show stopper from any angle!

This alone makes them a superb choice for both residential and commercial spaces because of the minimal but luxurious look they give, without any pleating.

Natural light: Open, Ripplefold drapes stack back neatly. They take up very little space, as opposed to other types of curtains whose draperies are pleated, hence bringing in more light.

This is a great application for a living room. Opening those curtains to let the sun in during the day; closing them to enjoy a cosy night in.

You can also choose to have your ripplefold drapery made of a sheer fabric. This allows you to have the best of both worlds: privacy and natural light floating down those waves.

Durability: Ripplefolds are super easy to maintain. We typically will tie up drapery for 72 hours after installation to maintain the best pleat memory so they look perfect every time you pen and close.  They are also super easy to operate and are typically handled less often. You can operate the drapes on the track with a cord, baton draw or motorized device. This means that they last for a long time.  The tracks used for ripplefolds are used in commercial spaces like hotels so you dont need to worry about durability of the hardware either!

  • HOW DO THE WAVES WORK

Once you’ve selected your favorite fabric with the help of our lovely team, we snap it to carriers on the track. We meticulously space the carriers symmetrically to create this “S” shape that stays consistent throughout, offering uniform curves for a luscious look both inside and outside:

It’s no surprise that Ripplefolds are a favorite amongst Designers and Architects alike. They are simple, durable and easy to maintain but yet offer a luxurious touch to any room. Many hotels have been using Ripplefolds for years. We are now seeing more and more residential spaces taking advantage of this beautiful treatment that looks breathtaking on tall floor-to-ceiling windows!
